Z Service

My 800 Number

In addition to the local 10-digit number assigned to your Z phone, you can also request a personal 800 number. For point-to-point calls, it doesn’t matter if you use your local number or an 800 number; there is no long distance charge either way.

However, if a hearing person calls your local number from outside your calling area, he or she will be charged a long distance fee. For that reason, many people like to have an 800 number to give out to hearing people. Hearing people can call your 800 number from anywhere with no long distance charges.

Keep in mind, though, that you must have a local number tied to your 800 number. If you don’t have a local number tied to your 800 number, your 800 number will stop working after Nov. 12, 2009. Read more about the difference between 10-digit and 800 numbers.
